India has reached an agreement with Sri Lanka In order to expand their successful digital initiatives that have been implemented on a large scale to drive Digital transformation. This partnership aims to share effectively Digital solutions which has been shown to be successful in India and support Sri Lanka’s efforts to improve its digital infrastructure and services.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi traveled To Sri Lanka to strengthen the countries’ defense and energyable. During his visit, Modi completed ten agreements with Sri Lanka, one of which is focused on promoting Sri Lanka’s digitization. Among other important agreements were those related to defense cooperation, integration of electrical network systems and developed an energy knot at Trincomalee. In her discussions with Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Modi Repeated Repeated to help Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic recovery and stability efforts.
During his visit, India signed A consensus agreement (MOU) between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in the Republic of India (Meity) and the Ministry of Digital Economics in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on “Cooperation in the field to share successful digital solutions implemented in the population scale for digital transformation.”
“India will support Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity project,” Modi announced during his visit. Implementation of the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity (Sludi) project is expected to help the country improve the delivery of government services to the public.
“President Disanayaka elected India for his first foreign visit after becoming president, and I have had the privilege of becoming his first foreign guest. This is a symbol of the depth of our special relationships,” Modi said during his fourth visit to Sri Lanka as prime minister.
“We value the priorities in our partner countries,” Modi said. “Over the past 6 months, we have only converted loans worth more than $ 100 million to grants. Our bilateral” debt structuring agreement “will provide immediate help and relief to the people of Sri Lanka. Today we have also decided to lower interest rates. It symbolizes that even today, India stands with the people in Sri Lanka.”
India-Sri Lanka Mou-signing for technical modernization follows the Srilalan government Recent announcement of an allocation of $ 10 million for digital conversion efforts this year to generate $ 15 billion in revenue for digital economy over the next five years. Ongoing work
The two countries have worked with the bilateral partnership India Since December 2024. Modi and Disanayaka had agreed to accelerate the implementation of the Sludi project to help the country improve the delivery of government services to the public. They had also agreed to cooperate on roads to completely roll out Digital public infrastructure (DPI) in Sri Lanka with the help of India. India’s DPI includes one Uniform payment interface (UPI) public platform and Aadhaarexclaimed as the world’s largest biometric identification system.
The two countries had expressed interest in bilateral exchanges to learn from India’s Aadhaar platform, digitized tariffs and other tax procedures and explore the benefits of establishing the corresponding system in Sri Lanka.
The two nations also agreed to promote digital financial transactions by expanding the use of UPI digital payments, which would benefit both countries and be in accordance with their payment system -related regulatory guidelines.
The two leaders also agreed to expand cooperation in research and development in agriculture, aquaculture, the digital economyhealth and other areas of mutual interest. They had also agreed to promote collaboration between Start-Up India and Information Communication Technology for Sri Lanka (ICTA), including mentoring for Sri Lankan New start.
