According to a joint statement released on June 6, 2025, 31 Bitcoin core Developers have taken a clear position on how the network should handle non-monetary uses. They emphasized that their role is not to support or block data inscriptions and other non-financial activities.
The move has aroused strong feelings throughout society, with debates that affect freedom, fees and the very purpose of Bitcoin.
Developer position on data policy
Based on reports, the Core team said they will not go in to stop “harmless” data from getting into blockchain. They pointed out that Bitcoin’s main force is its resistance to censorship. So all user -powered software whales must stand.

They made it clear: It is up to nod operators to choose what they accept. This approach aims to keep the network freely, even if it means it has extra data.

After the statement, reactions poured in. Samson Mow, CEO of Jan3, called the developer’s tone hollow and said that the latest changes have “opened the flood gates” Spam. He claimed to remove technical obstacles encourages unwanted data.
Bitcoin Core Devs has changed the network gradually to enable spam and now seems focused on also removing barriers to spammers. It is unclear to just say “that’s what it is now, too bad.”
This statement is also inappropriate. Feels like a new one from Core Devs. https://t.co/aciqyvk12f

On the back, Jameson praised the race from Casa the clear explanation of the relay rules. Race pointed out that a uniform voice from developers helps to reduce previous confusion over politics.
Latest upgrade park concerns
On May 8, 2025, nuclear developers removed a long -lasting limit for transaction data size. The tweak allows anyone to include larger pieces of information in transactions. Critics are worried that this will push up blockchain inflature and drive fees higher.
Supporters say that predict what miners will include – and transfer that information – is the key to keeping bitcoin running smoothly. They claim that this neutral rearfolicy helps miners and users, even if not everyone purchases it.
Future forks and warehouse solutions
Looking forward, some think a new fork could split a “clean money” chain that blocks data inscriptions. Others anticipate warehouse-2 networks or side chains that take on heavy lifting for art, messages and other uses.
Either way, most people agree that wallets and node software will soon offer alternatives: one too clean, only transactions with financing and another for those who do not mind extra data. This choice allows users to vote with their settings instead of relying on developers to call.
